FRESH ROASTED COFFEES FROM INDEPENDENCE COFFEE CO. Signature blends, freshly roasted in Texas
OUR BEGINNING Ragan and Christi Bond, who met and married during their sophomore year at Texas State University, graduated in 1987 with BBA degrees in Marketing. The couple's journey into the coffee roasting business began almost by accident. After Ragan spent 15 years as a commodities trader in the energy sector, the Bonds moved their family from Houston to the small town of Brenham, Texas. In 2001, Christi and her sister opened a small coffee shop called Main Street Coffee & Trading/Independence Coffee Co. Shortly thereafter, Ragan started roasting coffee for their shop in his garage, producing 1,800 lbs. of coffee in the first year on a 10 lb. Ambex roaster.
OUR GROWTH In 2018, Christi and Ragan opened a specialty coffee and tea retail destination in Brenham, Texas, called Black Truck '48 Coffee & Tea Market. The name pays homage to the 1948 Ford black truck the Bonds originally used for coffee delivery and is pictured on Independence Coffee bags. In 2019, Christi and Ragan Bond were named SBA Persons of the Year for Texas. Together with their growing team of 32, they custom and craft roasted a record 700,000 lbs. of coffee in 2019. Moving forward, Independence Coffee Co. continues to brew some good in 2020 by replacing their current single-serve cups with new coffee pods.
OUR MISSION TO YOU While there are many steps involved in getting Independence Coffee into your cup, the company's commitment to freshness and tight distribution standards sets it apart. Coffees are packaged within hours of leaving the roasters, sometimes while still warm. This has allowed Independence to deliver its coffees to select bed and breakfasts, gourmet markets, and grocery stores the same day they are roasted, providing customers with a truly fresh experience.
THE INDEPENDENCE ROAST Independence Coffee Co. has only three roasters on staff, with the original roaster training the other two in all facets of the roasting and blending process. This ensures each batch of coffee is roasted the same way, every time, allowing customers to consistently enjoy their favorite roasts. The "Independence Roast" uses a time and temperature-guided approach through several stages, resulting in a deep-roasted coffee that enhances the overall coffee experience.
LASTING FRESHNESS Independence Coffee's 50-count cases are individually wrapped and flushed with nitrogen, giving each coffee a one-year expiration date. The packaging clearly labels each coffee, so customers always know which roast they are about to enjoy, making it an excellent choice for offices or gatherings.
OUR COMMITMENT Independence Coffee Co. is committed to giving back to its local community. Through a licensing agreement with Baylor University, the company has successfully funded preservation and maintenance projects for the original home of Baylor University in Independence, Texas. Additionally, the company supports the Brenham High School Special Needs Program's "Gathering Grounds" coffee cart project, and partners with the Boys & Girls Club of Washington County.
